What’s Poppin’: So Rick Ross Just Dissed Drake

Is this it? Is this how we finally get rid of this infected, pockmark on the face of hip hop? Never before have I been so in favor of a rapper having his career taken.

Rick Ross is everything wrong with hip hop today.

His continued existence is a blight on hip hop authenticity, the very cornerstone upon which the culture was built.

He’s lied about his background as a state designated officer of the law, got called on it and then shrugged as if it was never important. He then continued to drop fabricated drug stories even as his popularity and records sales waned.

He was never really that big, but he refused to go away. 50 Cent murdered everything about him, both lyrically and personally, and he refused to go away. He signed Wale, hip hop’s perpetual journeyman, and he still refused to go away. His right-hand man Meek got “Meeked” and he still refused to go away.

Which brings us to this new track “Color Money” off his upcoming “Black Market” album.

I guess to stand up for Meek (while simultaneously sonning him even more — goddamn it Meek), he goes at Drake in the worst possible way: lightly:

check out the track here:

The offending lyrics:

“Color money got your bitch out on a world tour
My lil homie made a million on his girl tour
We back to back and down to whack a nigga unborn
Miami niggas got them changing all the gun laws
So run Forest got some shooters and they dying too
I got more money than that pussy that you’re signed to”

I’m praying Drake still has it in him to Meek this dude. Like the late, great Robin Harris said, when “ya gotta go, ya gotta go!” And this dude’s gotta go.

Say what you want about Drake, but he’s a pretty genuine guy. He is what he is: A goofy, singing dude who has daddy and women issues. It may not be the hardest thing on the planet, but he’s honest.

And I’ll take that over a fake, wannabe crime lord any day.

Now let’s get back to the real drama in San Berndardino. Sheesh.
